Schubert-like in style, this work has a light-hearted similarity to

"The Shepherd on the Rock" with clarinet obbligato.

Kreutzer's skill in writing for the bassoon is clear from his Variations for Bassoon and Orchestra, published by Universal Edition UE 18127 in piano reduction.

CD Thunemann Philips #446096.
